American Legion Post 14Meeting Minutes16 June 2008Meeting Minutes Post Commander Ron Abby opened the meeting at 12:00 p.m. The salute to the Colors and the Pledge of Allegiance was offered by those present. The Commander led the membership in the Preamble of the American Legion. Roll Call – Officers Present: Commander: Ron Abby, Finance Officer: Nick Scott, Vice-commander: Norm Deveraux, Historian: David Puckett. Minutes – The minutes of the May 2008 meeting were read. A motion to accept the minutes was made by Deveraux/Scott. Motion carried. Finances – The financial report for May 2008 was read by the Nick Scott. A motion to accept the minutes was made by Puckett/Deveraux. Motion carried. Election of New Members – None Communications – The adjutant read all communications from the Department as well as general mail. No items were laid over for action. Old Business: - 4th of July celebrations for Banderas Bay were reviewed. The post is still looking for information regarding sponsoring either a local little league team or a youth soccer team. Puckett will provide little league information at the next meeting. New Business – Membership dues are due in June for 2009. A motion was made by David Lilly to have quarterly meetings in different areas of Banderas bay so all other members could attempt and take part in the meetings. The motion was seconded by David Puckett and the motion carried. The post will decide if the quarterly meeting location will be rotated or if a central location will be selected. Ron Abby and David Lilly attended the Department of Mexico Convention
in Guatemala. National elections were held, Post 14 members were elected
to the following Offices: The National Department of Mexico has a budget surplus. As a result they are offering local post the opportunity to raise funds by allowing the post to keep the entire membership fee for new members. This is available up to $5000.00. The National Department of Mexico is offering $1,000 for members interested in becoming Service Officers. Members will attend the training class in the USA. IMSS medical insurance is now available to American Legion members. The
insurance policy is $3,500 pesos per year. Contact Manual Gonzales for
additional information. New tax laws regarding bank accounts outside the USA will need to be reported
to the IRS if the account contains more then $10,000. Contact your accountant
or the IRS for additional information. The next meeting of the Post will be held on Saturday, July 1, 2008 at 12:00 a.m. at the Steve’s Bar, Basillo Badillo, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
